The United Methodist Committee on Relief
UMCOR = Our humanitarian presence “on the ground” All around the world, whenever disaster strikes...
You may feel justifiable pride when you think of UMCOR. Often, UMCOR workers are among the first on site when there is a hurricane, flood, earthquake, tsunami, typhoon, or refugee crisis provoked by violence. They are local people, trained for relief work, and linked into an international network for aid in relief and recovery. WE provide the resources they need to save and restore lives—and through the church, 100% of what we give goes to the need, thanks to One Great Hour of Sharing.
When you donate through UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, the full 100% of your gift goes to the ministries. No administrative costs are taken from your gift. Drop a check off at your local United Methodist Church with the number in memo line or visit umcor.org to learn how to donate on-line or via phone.
UMCOR. Be There. Be Hope.
UMCOR's mission is to alleviate human suffering-whether caused by war, conflict, or natural disaster-with open minds and hearts to all people.
Ministry Resources
Following the Asian tsunami, United Methodist Communications produced a video and study guide titled "God, Why?" to help people cope with the spiritual and emotional impact of disasters. The resource, available from EcuFilm, explores why such tragedies happen and God's role in them. The study guide provides a basis for group study and discussion.
